Volunteering Made Me Treasure Life More

Being a befriender at our Active Ageing Centre has made Suzanne treasure life more.

Through volunteering, I've realised that life is unpredictable and fragile.

We may encounter a senior this week, and next week, she could be admitted to a nursing home. Hence, every moment spent with the seniors is special.

Volunteering has also taught me the importance of empathy and understanding. There was once where a senior did not recognise me and asked me to go away. To overcome the awkward situation, I bent down to her eye level and spoke kindly with her.

Engaging with the seniors has shaped me into a more helpful and caring person. I hope to continue in this journey as lnog as I can.
